Thomas Schaefer
Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor
I have been personally and professionally involved in the recovery community since 1998. Prior to returning to school in 2008 to pursue a Graduate Degree in Addiction Studies, I held positions on various boards and committees focused on recovery issues. I also owned and operated sober residence. I have earned a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development from St. Cloud State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I continued my studies at Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies and in 2010 earned a Masters of Arts degree. I believe in a solution focused approach and have worked with both adults and adolescents. After completing graduate school, I have received specialized training to facilitate Mindful Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I am a native of Minnesota and worked for much of my adult life as a Journeyman Carpenter. In 2013 I migrated to Tucson with my wife. I have two adult children. Currently my wife and I share our home with two rescue dogs and a rescue cat. In my free time, I enjoy running marathons, motorcycle riding and hiking.
